Meet the Characters of the Raw Bar

most beloved pieces of coastal art: the Raw Bar.

Have you ever wondered about the characters splashing across Steve Diossy’s iconic marine life paintings?
It all began with a crazy idea at a bar—and ended in what’s now one of the most beloved pieces of coastal art: the Raw Bar.

🐟 It Started at the Bar...

A fish swims up to a bar and orders a round of drinks. He's joined by a pirate, a crab, and a marlin. As the drinks flow and the laughter grows... things get a little rowdy.
The bar quickly transforms into a Raw Bar—as captured in Steve Diossy’s colorful and imaginative painting.

🎨 Meet the Characters of the Raw Bar

Each character in Diossy's Raw Bar represents a real-life friend of Steve's, brought to life with wit, personality, and vibrant marine artistry.

🦀 Robby – The Crab

Steve's friend Robby is perfectly captured as the crabby and snappy crab. Robby is known for speaking before thinking, much like a crab that pinches without warning.
Fun fact: If someone’s ever pinched your last nerve, you’ve probably met a Robby!

🐟 Scotty – The Marlin

Scotty, the Marlin, brings energy and chaos everywhere he goes.
Marlin were chosen because of their unwieldy "sword" bills, symbolizing Scotty’s unstoppable nature.
In Steve’s words, Scotty had a "stiff upper lip" and would slash through obstacles without hesitation, inspiring others with his infectious, fearless attitude.

🐠 Jason – The Mahi (with a Pirate Twist)

Jason is the life of the party—the Mahi wearing an eye patch.
The patch humorously suggests Jason turning a "blind eye" to Scotty’s antics.
Jason’s vibrant personality, impersonations, and "pirate" flair made him the ideal inspiration for this character.
The Mad Mahi image has since become one of Steve Diossy’s most popular designs, featured on performance shirts, decals, towels, and tumblers.

🐡 Steve Diossy – The Nassau Grouper

Finally, we meet the artist himself—Steve Diossy, represented as the Nassau grouper.
Like the solitary grouper, Steve prefers staying in the background, letting his vibrant artwork steal the spotlight.
Known for bold markings and the ability to camouflage with surroundings, the grouper perfectly symbolizes Steve’s approach to life and art: humble, colorful, and unforgettable.

In the Raw Bar painting, Steve holds a cocktail in his fin—whether freshly refilled or untouched is left up to your imagination.

🌟 The Legacy of the Raw Bar

Today, these characters aren’t just part of one painting—they live on across Steve Diossy’s wide range of premium products, including:
